Oh that was a tricky one. Where would I find an actor to play a 70 year old Kalaripayattu guru, someone who would eventually train Tiger’s character and be the guiding light to him.

I was very worried that I’d have to cast an actor and make believe that he knew the art and was as fit as a teenager, I was scared of falling flat on my face.

Fortunately as my team was doing all the research on Kallari we came across Grand Master Shifuji. If you Google him he has many shining talents to his credit and I would not be able to do justice to him by mentioning only a few.

I want to credit Sajid bhai on introducing him to me for some in-depth research on Kallari. At first I wanted him to come board just as a consultant and mentor to Tiger for the Kallari part.

But as we spent a lot of time together and went through the physicality of the art form I started thinking what if I cast him. It couldn’t get more authentic than that. And Shifuji is an amazingly inspiring man in real life.

I told Sajid bhai my intention and though he was skeptical at first he came around to the idea sooner that I thought because genuinely we were worried about who could play that part.

When I told Shifuji what I was thinking he said ‘I am not an actor’ I said you leave that to me just do what you do and be yourself

Its not fair for an actor to take body doubles: Tiger ShroffActor Tiger Shroff, who promises awe-inspiring action scenes in his new film “Baaghi”, says it’s not fair for an actor to take body doubles.
While the concept of body doubles has existed for long in tinsel town, Tiger told IANS: “I did all the stunt scenes myself because I think it’s not fair for an actor to take body doubles. That’s why I worked so hard and did them myself as much as possible.”
“If there was a body double, I would rather allow him to be the hero of the film. It’s not right to take his credit. I tried my best to be honest to the character,” he added.
“Baaghi” brings back the successful team of the 2014 film “Heropanti” — producer Nadiadwala, director Sabbir Khan and actor Tiger. The film, which is releasing on April 29, is a rebellious love story, and features Shraddha with Tiger for the first time on screen.
Grandmaster Shifuji Shaurya Bhardwaj has mentored Tiger Shroff extensively in Kalaripayattu and the power-packed action sequences before he started shooting for “Baaghi”.
Bhardwaj, who was extremely impressed by Tiger’s hard work, says it was an emotional journey for him.
“When I was roped in, it was my responsibility and liability to prove Tiger at his best.”

It's all about standing out, says TigerMumbai, April 14 — Tiger Shroff has been training rigorously and has mastered several martial arts forms for his upcoming film, Baaghi.
“I have learnt Kalaripayattu, modern kung fu, Krav Maga and Silat in less than a year. It was challenging, but if you have a master who understands his or her student, he or she can mould you in a certain way and condense what usually takes 10 years,” says the actor.
The 26-year-old has been working closely with ex-commando grandmaster Shifuji Shaurya Bharadwaj. Interestingly, Shifuji will be making his acting debut in the movie, as Tiger’s mentor.
“We are always fascinated by on-screen heroes. But when you work with a real-life hero, you feel inspired. This film was mentally and physically challenging for me, but what he (Shifuji) goes through every day is much more gruelling,” says the Bollywood actor.
When asked about the most difficult part of the training process, Tiger says he found Kalaripayattu challenging. “It is the mother of all other martial arts. It’s difficult to learn a martial art form at my age, but I have become calmer after practising it,” he says.
The actor’s debut film, Heropanti (2014), was also high on action. Tiger says he is consciously building an action-hero image for himself in the industry. “It’s all about standing out. When I look at other actors, I think, ‘What am I bringing to the industry? How is it (the industry) benefiting from me?’ I believe that by bringing in my talent in action and stunts, I can make a difference,” says Tiger.

भारद्वाज ने कहा, ‘‘ टाइगर अब मेरे परिवार के सदस्य की तरह है। उनकी जो बात मुझे सबसे अधिक प्रेरित करती है वह उनकी ईमानदारी और गरिमा है। नौजवान पीढ़ी में वह देश के सबसे अच्छे अभिनेता हैं। ’’
उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘ वह ऐसे नौजवान अभिनेता हैं जो सबको प्रेरित करते हैं। फिल्म में टाइगर ने ‘कलारीपयट्टू’ मार्शल कला का एक रूप की पवित्रता और विनम्रता को बनाए रखाा है। ’’ भारद्वातज ने कहा कि टाइगर को प्रशिक्षण देना आसान था।
उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘ मैंने उनके साथ पर्दे के पीछे और सामने काफी अच्छा समय बिताया। ’’ भारद्वाज ने कहा कि बालीवुड में एक्शन फिल्म का प्रारूप काफी बदल गया है और अब हम लगभग अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर पहुंच गए हैं।

Mumbai Actor Tiger Shroff says his father Jackie Shroff, who has enjoyed the adulation of his
fans for years, is always tensed about how the audience will accept him.
“My father is always tensed and scared on how the audience will (react)…accept me or not. Being a son of a talented and great actor like him, there is pressure, and there are expectations. He understands that,” Tiger told PTI.
“Every star son has to face this thing. I work very hard to make my father and mother proud. That is my goal.”
According to Tiger, his father loved the trailer of his upcoming film ‘Baaghi‘.
“My family is very happy about this film. My father doesn’t speak much but I could sense that he is very happy.
The biggest high for me is when my parents are happy.” In his debut film ‘Heropanti’, Tiger stunned everyone
with his action and dancing skills. Now for his second film ‘Baaghi’ the young actor has learnt Kalaripayattu, an ancient martial art form from Kerala.

Tiger Shroff Inspires Everyone: Bharadwaj

Mumbai: Chief commando trainer Grandmaster Shifuji Shaurya Bharadwaj, who has trained actor Tiger Shroff for action in “Baaghi”, has heaped praise on the actor saying, he is the youngest star who inspires everyone.

Bharadwaj makes his acting debut in Tiger Shroff starrer “Baaghi”, slated to release on April 29.

“Tiger is like my family now. What inspires me about him the most is his honesty and the dignity. Among the young generation, he is biggest thing that has happened to our country,” Bharadwaj told PTI.

“He is the youngest star to inspire people. Tiger has maintained the purity and humility of ‘Kalaripayattu’ (a martial art form) in the film,” he said.

It was easy for Bharadwaj to train Tiger.

“We (Tiger and I) share same values on and off screen. It is not about being easy or tough, it is about being what you are,” he added.

Bharadwaj believes action in films and in general has changed.

“In terms of action (in films and in general in real life) we have evolved (and) we have reached international standards.

Just flying in the air with the help of action doesn’t mean it’s action. It doesn’t impress me as a common man,” Bharadwaj said.

He is keen to promote ‘Kalaripayattu’ through “Baaghi”.

“I am associated with ‘Baaghi’ because we need to promote our own art forms. The forte of Hollywood is commando and army forces, Chinese films shows martial arts form, Korean films is about Taekwondo. India being the pioneer…the mother of all the action in the world we need to show our art forms.

“We have highest form of choreography like ‘Shivtandav’, ‘Rudratandav’ and others. When it comes to art forms like ‘Kalaripayattu’ we have not explored it. It was our responsibility to show it,” he added.

Bharadwaj is hopeful that the audience will relate to action in “Baaghi”.

“We have not used any weapons in the film. He (Tiger) is the weapon. He (Tiger) uses his body and hands, legs. We have spoken about the authenticity of art (Kalaripayattu),” he adds.

Bharadwaj has trained and mentored for some top action films and movie stars and top stunt men as well.

“Camera is nothing it is just a machine. There is nothing like easy or tough, I am a labourer and I will do what you ask me to do. I use my emotions (and) I don’t use my mind.

“For me breaking bones is easy as that is my job. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Sabbir Khan had faith in me and breaking faith of anyone is something I am scared of. I gave my best,” he said.
